SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK [18/07 – 24/07]

"Spotlight of the Week" is a weekly published series that highlights what's happened in the world of PR, Comms, Marketing, Advertising, Social. It's about the work that makes you think "Pssttt I wish I had come up with this idea". The work that matters. Or simply the ones (good and bad) that get people talking. So, what's in the news?
The Place To Be Seen by Queer Britain and M&C Saatchi London

Last week marked the official launch of Britain’s very first LGBTQ+ museum at Granary Square, King’s Cross with a new campaign, which spotlights the importance of visibility for LGBTQ+ people, culture and history as it should.

According to The Drum, the campaign will be running across out-of-home (OOH), social and digital channels, the ads will honor the 50th anniversary of Britain’s first Pride march. The promo film features TV personality Dr Ranj Singh, plus Drag Race UK alumni Kitty Scott-Claus, Ella Vaday and Bimini Bon Boulash.

In the words of Bimini, release the beast! Oh, let me say it: “It’s about bloody time to be seen.”

Bye Gull Bye by Deliveroo and Talker Tailor Trouble Maker

Deliveroo has teamed up with experts from Exeter University to come up with a song that they claim stops seagulls from tucking into your fish and chips so that you can eat outside in peace. Where was it two years ago when I was eating ice cream at Brighton beach and got robbed by a greedy seagull!

It was a brilliant idea and campaign with perfect timings when thousands of Brits will head to the beach this summer.

A new survey commissioned by Deliveroo revealed that 53 per cent of Britons have had food pinched by seagulls, with 44 per cent admitting they’ve previously been anxious about eating outside due to a fear of the flying pests.

Ornithologist Madeleine Goumas, a postdoctoral research associate from the University of Exeter, was the bird expert who worked with Deliveroo to produce the song – now available on YouTube and soon to be released on Spotify.

Adding to “silly sounding song”, a mobile crew called Chip Watch will be at Brighton beach and Scarborough beach – from 10am to 6pm on Friday and Sunday respectively – to be on hand to protect you from having to share your food with hawks.

The song is now available on Spotify and YouTube.

#Heatwave

It’s all about being quick and relevant. Last Tuesday, for the first time on record temperatures in the UK exceeded 40°C. According to the Met Office, the first ever Red Extreme Heat warning was in place across parts of England together with a larger Amber Extreme heat warning, covering much of England, Wales and southern Scotland.

And of course, everyone was talking about it. Brands quickly reacted to it and jumped in the conversation – Ice cream brand Magnum and LOLA MullenLowe Madrid told us to “enjoy it before it melts” while Nando’s added one hot flavour.
