SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK [27.02.23 – 05.03.23]

"Spotlight of the Week" is a weekly published series that highlights what happens in the world of PR, Comms, Marketing, Advertising, Social. It's about the work that makes you think "Pssttt I wish I had come up with this idea". The work that matters. Or simply the ones (good and bad) that get people talking. The good and the not-so-good. So, what's in the news?

The Yellow Sticker Cookbook by Uncommon Creative Studio

The agency has developed The Yellow Sticker Cookbook, a recipe app that helps users incorporate reduced food items into meals.

Everyone has the right to a good meal. But our pounds no longer stretch as far as they used to. Apart from one place—the reduced section. The Yellow Sticker Cookbook was conceived, designed and built by Uncommon Creative Studio in response to this.

The project follows a finding that one in seven Brits were skipping meals to save money, which is named after the yellow stickers used to indicate reduced-price goods approaching their sell-by date. Uncommon founder Jonathan Goodman says that releasing the app “at a time of year when people might be feeling the pinch more than ever” was a key consideration.

Romaine Calm by Asda and Havas London

With fruit and vegetable shortages hitting the news cycle over the past week, Asda ad encourages readers to ‘Romaine calm’.

Featuring a certain lettuce front and centre, the ad calls for readers to Romaine calm’ until Asda’s efforts to restock ‘bear fruit’. The ad was featured underneath a story about a turnip shortage sparked by a minister encouraging shoppers to make the switch from tomatoes.

The supermarket and agency Havas London turned around the ad in under 48 hours to appear in Saturday’s print edition of The Sun, according to Campaign.

The Chat by Breast Cancer Now and W Communications

The Chat is the UK’s first group messaging drama series, written and created by Breast Cancer Now. With a gripping storyline brought to life by an award-winning cast, the drama plays out through the voice notes, messages, videos and pictures sent between four close friends as they navigate an unexpected breast cancer diagnosis together.

The Chat encourages us to question how we speak about breast cancer, highlighting the importance of honesty and real talk in a society that typically doesn’t like to talk about it. The series is inspired by real breast cancer stories.

The Interview Store by Trainline and Hope&Glory

Trainline has launched The Interview Store at London Waterloo Station to provide candidates with a less stressful and more cost-effective solution to tackle the recruitment process. The pop-up space will offer visitors a range of pre-loved outfits to ensure a more sustainable shopping experience, with all items available for FREE. Trainline will also be offering a limited discount of £10 off to subsidise their train travel to interviews.

The majority (53%) of Gen-Z say they’re finding it difficult to get on the career ladder as the average cost of attending interviews has reached over £100.

The pop-up space will be particularly helpful for Gen-Z seeking to kickstart their careers, with the research showing two-thirds (64%) of them are actively looking for a new job. Indeed, while the average Brit goes through the recruitment process every 4 years, this drops dramatically to just 14 months for 16-24-year-olds motivated to climb the career ladder. Although 45% say the rising cost-of-living has made them more stressed, four out of five (82%) of Gen-Z still feel under pressure to purchase new clothes for job interviews because the majority (53%) believe wearing an outfit they’re not happy with negatively impacts their performance. In contrast, half (49%) feel more confident and prepared when dressed in a new outfit.

The Interview Store is open 07:30 – 19:00 from Tuesday 28 February – Thursday 2 March and can be found within London Waterloo Station, The Sidings. Walk-ins are available and for those who want to reserve their spot in advance, you can book your place at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-interview-store-tickets-550822353487.
